Ben started refereeing at the age of 12 years old while playing for Gorge Soccer as part of the Gold team. Ben began playing soccer at the age of 4 with TimBits Soccer, Lakehill and Gorge Soccer Association. Ben is currently a grade 11 student at École Victor Brodeur and his sports interests are diverse and extensive. He is currently part of competitive gymnastics having won the Provincial High school Championships in 2018. Last spring Ben was also honoured to have been selected to participate in ‘La Grande Traversée’ – a cross Canada cycling relay, where he and a group of student from across Canada cycled 300km across Prince Edward Island over the course of three days. This past fall, Benjamin also joined the Victoria Yacht Club Sailing team and currently races Laser Radials. As a result of participating in two competitive sports as well as being enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Program at school, Ben was not able to continue on a soccer team this year. Ben, who enjoys refereeing both the younger athletes in small sided games as well as full field games, says he continues to ref because it keeps him connected to the game and he really likes the moments when, as a ref, he has the ability to teach the players about the game. Ben aspires to continue refereeing and grow his experience to be able to become a regional referee. Ben is grateful to his referee coordinator, Emma and the other refs and coaches at Gorge who have guided him in becoming a better ref!
